Your Health Your Choice
This post has been a while coming. I’ve thought about it and written and re-written it a few times. Our health is very important to us, we all know that. But I am a firm believer that knowledge is power. This comes in so many forms whether it is reading books or having the inside information on our health.
Our generation are incredibly lucky to live in a time where where we have access to so much information and so freely. DNA tests, health tests, blood tests all just so readily available and you don’t even need to see a doctor to do them. It’s crazy when you think about it.

So I knew when I was contacted by LetsGetChecked that it was a sign to finally write and finalise this post. LetsGetChecked provides at-home checks which you can do in the privacy of your own home. There are SO many checks available from them but the ones which we’re interested in are ‘Wellness‘. A buzz word at the moment I know but it does stand for a certain aspect of our lives, a very important one in our mind. LetsGetChecked say “Our wellness tests are for those who want to take control of their health.” which I think sums these checks up perfectly.
You cannot take control of what you don’t know about. This is the key message here. If a warning light comes on in your car you can only drive it for so long before it breaks down. The warning light in humans is simply lots of different symptoms that our body might be lacking something or something might not be quite right. Which is fine, most of these things can be fixed if they are simply a deficiency.
The test which we checked out was the Vitamin D test.
So what is Vitamin D’s Job?
I’m telling you as I didn’t even know this! Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that helps to absorb the minerals calcium and phosphorous, playing a vital role in forming and maintaining strong bones and teeth, regulating normal immune system function, maintaining heart and lung health and combating depression.
A very simple vitamin which is in lots of foods, we even get it from sunlight. However most of us don’t get enough of it. Some of the symptoms of vitamin D deficiency are chronic fatigue, pale skin/dark circles, back pain, muscle weakness, weak bones and lots more. I don’t know about you but some of the symptoms surprised me.
How does the test work?
This is all done in the privacy of your own home and in your own time. Simply a prick of the finger. Most of the tests are done in this method and it’s super simple! You pop it in the return packaging provided and post back to LetsGetChecked. Then simply await your results.
I already guessed my levels wouldn’t be up to standard. Living in a country which isn’t exactly famous for its sunshine and not always eating a nutrient rich diet has probably led to this. But I do my best!
The best bit of it is they don’t just abandon you after you complete the test. A qualified doctor/nurse calls you up to explain your results and what lifestyle changes you might be able to make in order to rectify any slight issues. Now that’s good service!
After receiving my results I’ve decided to take a low level supplement of vitamin D and hoping that will help alleviate some of the symptoms.
We’ll be checking out more tests from LetsGetChecked for sure! It was so easy!
