Northern Ireland Michelin rated restaurants

If you’re regular readers of ours you will know we are based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. We’re extremely proud of what Northern Ireland has achieved in recent years in regards to food recognition. We have a long and varied history of food in Northern Ireland but it is only in recent years that this has been recognised. We’re really excited to share with you some of Northern Ireland’s finest Michelin starred restaurants.

Home – 22 Wellington Place, Belfast

Believe it or not Home started out life as a popup restaurant. With an interior style a cross between New York loft and rustic warehouse it is a instantly welcoming and comfortable restaurant. Their menu is constantly changing with the addition of new seasonal items but they have always retained their most popular dishes from when they first began as a popup. These include hot and sour Asian chicken broth or whipped goats cheese with candied walnuts. These are not to be missed.

James Street South – 21 James Street South, Belfast

As the name suggests this restaurant is located on James Street South in Belfast and has been a firm favourite with both locals and foreign visitors for many years. Priding themselves in using the freshest local ingredients this restaurant is spacious and contemporary with a comfortable feeling. Highlights of their menu are Strangford Lough Bouillabaise and Organic Lamb. We even interviewed owner and head chef Niall McKenna for our Top Chefs Interviews series.

OX – 1 Oxford Street, Belfast

OX is a very popular restaurant in Belfast for both locals and celebrities. With the likes of Kit Harrington occasionally popping in. OX guarantees menus which feature top quality meat and sustainably sourced fish, while also giving careful attention to seasonal vegetables and fruit. This riverside setting is perfect for Ox with their two-story restaurant you can choose to dine overlooking Belfast’s river lagan. Some favourites of ours include Asparagus, Coolattin cheddar, truffle, lardo and their dessert Baked brown sugar cream, ginger, coconut, lime. Is your mouth watering yet?

Sleepy Hollow – 15 Kiln Road, Newtownabbey

Sleepy Hollow lies a little off the beaten track in a town just outside of Belfast. They pride themselves in using the finest, in season, local, sustainable produce. Some of the meat even comes from a farm right next to the restaurant. You cant get less food miles than that can you?! The menu contains traditional Irish food cooked with care and attention. You’ll find the likes of a platter of rare breed pork or loin of Finnebrogue Venison on the menu. Their dark chocolate and morello cherry torte is not to be missed.

This is only a small taste of what Northern Ireland has to offer. There are also hundreds of other amazing resutrants which have not yet been recognised by Michelin. We’ll be expanding this list as we adventure further.

Did you know that Bookatable has compiled a list of lots of Michelin Starred restaurants which you can book on their website? We love using Bookatable to find new and interesting restaurants nearby to try when we’re out and about.
